African American Scholarships

This is because many organizations recognize the many hurdles that African Americans face in daily life and in the pursuit of a higher education degree. These scholarships are intended to help overcome these obstacles and to bridge the gap of privilege that is so often a problem in today’s society. If you are an African American student who is having trouble finding money for college, these scholarships could be the answer to your needs.The secret to getting funding for your college education is to apply to as many scholarships for African Americans as possible at the earliest possible time. Anheuser-Busch Legends of the Crown Scholarship Program

These scholarships for African Americans are valued at up to $2,500 and are available to students who have at least a 3.0 GPA, and who attend Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Dillard University, Fisk University, Benedict College, or Xavier University of Louisiana. The application deadline is September 10 and applications are available online through a link on the UNCF college page.

Anheuser-Busch Legends of the Crown Scholarship Program

This scholarship is worth of at least $2,500 to each student leader who is a sophomore, junior, or senior at either Benedict College, Dillard University, Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Fisk University, or Xavier University. The deadline for application is September 10 and must include a GPA of at least 3.0 and the submission of a 250-500 word essay that details leadership style. Since award determination will be partly determined by the content of this essay, it is vital to make sure it is well written and portrays you accurately. Finalists will then be required to submit a video of 60 seconds that demonstrates their leadership abilities.

Catherine W. Pierce Scholarship

This is one of the more valuable scholarships for African Americans and can be worth up to $5,000. Awards are available to students in every year of college who have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and who are studying eligible majors including Anthropology, American Studies, Art, Architecture, Economics, Criminal Justice, Visual Arts, Theater Arts, Vocal Performance, Social Sciences, Political Science, Public, Pre-Law, Performing Arts, Philosophy, and more. Students must be attending a four-year university or college and must apply by September 19. Applications are available online through the UNCF website.

Cisco Systems Scholars Program

These scholarships are available for up to $4,000 a year for college students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) with at least a 2.5 GPA. To be eligible, students must be majoring in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science at a qualifying university. Applications may be made online through the UNCF site by September 12. Although all qualifying students may apply, special preference is given to women and students with a strong record of community service.

Elaine B. Hancock Endowed Scholarship

These scholarships are worth as much as $5,000 to college juniors and seniors with a minimum of 3.0 and who attend UNCF Institutes or Howard University. The deadline for application is September 14 and can be completed online through the UNCF site. The actual amount of the scholarships awarded depends upon financial need as demonstrated to the college of choice.
