Soccer is a worldwide favorite and has gained in popularity in the United States over the past several years. Many colleges and universities offer soccer scholarships to draw students to their teams, and other organizations and groups offer scholarships to reward soccer players and to help them get the college education they need to succeed in life. The awards are available in varying amounts and for a range of student types. Here are some of the soccer scholarships available to you:
World Sport Chicago Scholarships
The World Sport Chicago soccer scholarships were designed to help student athletes get ready for college success. Each year, as many as 50 high school students are chosen to participate in a year-long mentoring program throughout their senior year. These WSC Scholars will then be able to compete for a $5,000 renewable scholarship. Eligible students must be residents of Chicago and attend a Chicago school. In addition, candidates must have participated in a summer Paralympic or Olympic sport for at least two seasons in the previous three years. The deadline for application is December 12. Bryan Cline Memorial Soccer Scholarship Program
Bryan Cline was a fullback on the Eldorado High School soccer team. After his tragic death, friends and family started offering soccer scholarships to graduating varsity players at EHS. The scholarships are valued at $800 and are awarded to one female and one male each year. In order to be eligible, students must be graduating from EHS and be planning to attend a college or university as full-time students. To apply, submit the name of your varsity soccer coach as well as a letter of reference from a teacher or counselor and a letter of reference from a soccer coach. Applications are due by March 6. Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association Student-Athlete Scholarship
Massachusetts Youth Soccer offers soccer scholarships for high school seniors who intend to go on to college. Each year, one male and one female player will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The funds will be paid directly to the recipient after he or she has completed a full college semester. To be eligible, students must have played with Massachusetts Youth Soccer for at least the previous two years. Application deadline is May 1. To apply, students must submit the official Mass Youth Soccer Application for Scholarship along with a 500 word essay detailing how soccer has had a positive influence on their lives. Rocklin Soccer Club
Each year, Rocklin Soccer Club provides five scholarships to Rocklin or Whitney High School Students who have completed their junior year. To be eligible, applicants rank in the upper part of their graduating class, have at least a 3.0 GPA, be planning to enroll in college, and be members of Rocklin Youth Soccer Club for at least one season. Recipients will be chosen based on character, leadership, and sportsmanship. Mike Kabanica Soccer Scholarship
To be eligible for the Mike Kabanica Soccer Scholarships, applicants must submit three letters of recommendation. One letter must be from your soccer coach or soccer organization and must be on official letterhead. The second must be from a school representative on school stationery with GPA verification. The final letter can be from anyone except a relative or family member. Applications are due February 22 and must be mailed to Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association.
