English Scholarships Open a World of Opportunity

Jean Evenstad Memorial Scholarship
Jean Evenstad was a graduate of VCSU and a Fingal, ND native. She provided funding from her estate to provide three $1,000 scholarships and two $800 scholarships each year to North Dakota students pursuing a degree in English. To be eligible for these English Scholarships, students must be residents of North Dakota who are pursing English degrees from Valley City State University. To apply for the scholarship, contact the VCSU financial aid department.
Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowships
The Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowships provides five $15,000 English scholarships to the winners of a national poetry competition each year. To apply, students must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 21 and 31. To apply, students must make submissions through the official website by March 31. Merv Aubespin Scholarship
These English scholarships are available to students with editing skills. Each year, the program offers one $2,500 scholarship and four $1,000 scholarships to college students who are in the junior year or higher of an undergraduate program or are graduate students. Winners also receive free registration and $500 in travel reimbursements to attend the ACES conference. To apply, students must complete the online application and submit a resume, a brief essay, up to six original headlines, and three references. Augustana College Fryxell Scholarship
These $1,000 English scholarships are available to incoming freshmen at Augustana College. While applications are open to all students, preference is given to students majoring in journalism and/or English. Deadline for application is February 15. JSU Alabama Randy Own Scholarship
These English scholarships are available to full-time students who are pursuing an English degree at Jacksonville State University in Alabama. Eligible applicants must demonstrate academic excellence and must have a 3.5 GPA overall and in all English classes. To apply, visit www.jsu.edu.
