Alaska Academic Competitiveness Grant
To be eligible for these awards, students must pass the State Scholars Initiative program of study. This program includes four years of English, three years of math, three years of science, three years of social studies, and at least one year of a foreign language. In addition, the program requires that students complete at least two Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses during high school with a minimum passing score. Elmendorf Officers’ Spouses’ Organization Scholarship
These scholarships are available to all graduating high school seniors who are the dependent children of active duty or retired military members. Applicants must live in the Anchorage area. Applicants must be able to provide a current military ID card, be a citizen of the United States, and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Recipients will be chosen based on leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. Criteria includes GPA, SAT/ACT scores, difficulty and variety of classes taken, Honors and Advanced placement classes, offices held, honors and awards received, work experience, and more. Alaska International Education Foundation
The Alaska International Education Foundation offers limited scholarships and grants to students participating in endeavors aimed at improving the understanding between Alaska and other nations. The program provides support for studies in the state and abroad, exchange programs, participation in qualifying workshops and research studies, and other projects that align with the central purpose. Deadlines to apply are June 1 and October 1. To apply, students must submit a cover sheet, references, resumes, and other documentation not to exceed four pages total. Alaska American legion Western District Scholarship
This program provides scholarships for students interested in improving themselves through any type of postsecondary education or training. To apply, students must complete and print the fillable application. This application along with an essay, school transcript, and three letters of reference must be submitted by the March 30 deadline. Applicants are judged based on a GPA of 2.0 to 3.0, outlook, being unlikely to receive an academic scholarship, community service, future goals, and financial need. Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage Scholarship
To be eligible for these scholarships in Alaska, students must be Alaska residents who are high school seniors or are accepted or enrolled in an accredited college or university. In addition, applicants must be members of a high school cross-country ski team during the final two years of high school and must be members of the NSAA during the past two years. Students must also have at least a 2.7 GPA and be enrolling for at least 8 semester hours of coursework. Additional criteria for consideration includes attending college in Alaska, academic performance, cross-country skiing accomplishments, community service, essay on benefits of skiing, letters of recommendation, and contributions to the NSAA and Nordic skiing. The application includes personal information, school information, GPA, college information, essays, list of personal accomplishments and honors, community service, three letters of recommendation, and special circumstances. All materials must be submitted by April 1.
Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation Scholarship
To apply for these scholarships, students must submit a completed application, current resume, two letters of reference, a personal essay, and a photo through the online process by May 31. Consideration is given to residents of the Pacific Northwest as well as those who have lived, worked, or attend osteopathic medical school in the region. Students must be committed to practicing medicine in the Pacific Northwest and must be entering the second year or higher of an AOA approved college. Recipients are selected based on academic work, professional and community involvement, intent to practice in the Pacific Northwest, and quality of essays and recommendations. Funds are for one year but recipients are welcome to reapply in subsequent years. Applications are available at www.formstack.com.
Pride Foundation Scholarships
To receive these scholarships, students must live in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington, but may study in any state. Eligible students must currently live in one of the qualifying states and have done so for the past three months, have lived in one of the states for a minimum of one year within the past five years, or have lived in one of the states for more than a year and have been continuously enrolled in an accredited college or university for the past five years. Preference is given to students who are self-identified LGBTQ, members of LGBTQ families, or straight allies who have shown strong support to the LGBTQ community. Students must be pursuing a post-secondary degree or planning to do so the next academic year to apply. Applications are available at www.pridefoundation.org.
