Missouri Scholarships

Are you a student in Missouri who is looking for scholarships? If so, there are many excellent programs waiting to help you. While there are many scholarships that have no relation to your state of residence, state-specific scholarships can offer a better opportunity because the applicant pool is much lower than those offered at a national level. Regardless of your stage of education, interests, needs, or future goals, there are scholarships in Missouri that are just right for you. Here are some of the programs available:

Matt Abraham Memorial Scholarship

This program offers one scholarship, valued at $500, to a Gainesville High School graduating senior who is planning to attend any accredited two- or four-year college of university. To be eligible, students must have strong participation in athletics and extracurricular activities, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and have a 25 or higher on the ACT. In addition, applicants must enroll full-time in college and complete an interview. To renew funding, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA as a full-time student. Calvin L. Allen Minority Scholarship

These $500 scholarships are available to graduating seniors at Central, Glendale, Hillcrest, Parkview, or Kickapoo high schools in Springfield who are planning to attend an accredited college or university. Preference is given to graduates of Central High School. To qualify, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be involved in community service, school, and church activities or be employed. Students with at least 95% attendance and participation in the Springfield Community Center have preference. Grace J. Alverson Memorial Scholarship

These $500 awards are made to graduating students at Warsaw High School in Warsaw who plan to attend University of Central Missouri at Warrensburg or Missouri State University at Springfield. To be eligible, students must be planning to major in Elementary Education with the goal of receiving a certification and to teach third, fourth, or fifth grade in the area. Applications are available from the Warsaw High School counselor and should be returned to that office. Full program details are available at

Hearld and Marge Ambler Scholarship

This $5,000 scholarship is available to a current college student in Missouri or a contiguous state. To be eligible, students must be in the third, fourth, or fifth year of college as a full-time student. In addition, applicants must be employed and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Students must demonstrate financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid SAR. Business majors are eligible, with preference being given to accounting majors. Applicants will be chosen based on the number of scholarships held, interview results, and other criteria. To renew the award, students must maintain employment and a 3.0 GPA. J. Kenneth and Iva M. Awbery Scholarship

This program provides eight scholarships, valued at $3,750 each. To be eligible, students must be graduating seniors from Bradleyville, Branson, Forsyth, or Hollister high schools in Taney County. In addition, students must demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA and be enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or technical school. Students must graduate in the top half of the class and demonstrate good citizenship. Renewals are dependent upon making adequate progress with at least a 2.5 GPA. John C. Bounous Scholarship

These $4,000 scholarships are available to graduating seniors at Monett High School. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in agriculture classes for four years, be active in FFA, and have at least an 8.0 GPA on an 11.0 scale. In addition, students must demonstrate leadership, community service and volunteerism, and submit an essay on the impact of agriculture and how it is part of future plans. Donald Howard Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to men and women who are recovering from alcoholism and/or drug addictions. Applicants for these funds must be residents of Missouri with at least one year of sobriety. Applicants may be new or continuing college students. To apply, students must submit the official program application along with three letters of reference, an essay telling why the applicant deserves the scholarship, and verification of acceptance to an accredited program. Missouri Bankers Foundation Scholarship

Applicants for these scholarships must be high school seniors who have demonstrated economic need and/or academic achievement. Successful applicants will be planning to enroll full-time in a major related to banking. To apply, students must submit the official program application along with official transcripts, ACT scores, two letters of recommendation, and a resume of extracurricular participation. Completed applications must be signed by an officer of a Missouri Bankers Association member bank. Applications are available at and must be postmarked by March 15.
