There is no doubt that a college education is a necessity for anyone who wishes to enter a lucrative, stable career. For many students, however, getting an education provides its own hurdles. Rising tuition costs, an increased cost of living, and insufficient federal financial aid make it difficult for many students to get the education they need. The answer for many of these students is to secure scholarships. There are many scholarships in Oklahoma that will help students get their dream degree at a reasonable cost. Here are some of the options for students in the state:

Choctaw Nation Scholarship Advisement Program Scholarships

There are many members of the Choctaw Nation in the state of Oklahoma. For these students, this program provides sixteen various scholarships ranging in amounts from $1,000 to $15,000 for college tuition and fees. Osage Nation Higher Education Scholarship

To apply for scholarship assistance from the Osage Nation Higher Education Scholarship fund, eligible students must submit the completed application along with a Financial Aid Form, a copy of the Osage membership card, the Verification of Enrollment form, a copy of current enrolled courses, recent transcripts, and the Graduation Form. Women of the South

This scholarship is available for women who are earning an associate degree at Oklahoma City Community College. To be eligible, women must be the primary financial provider for the household, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, must reside in the south Oklahoma City metropolitan area, and must have a family income that falls within program guidelines. To apply, students must submit the most recent income tax report, transcripts from any completed college work, a personal narrative, and three letters of recommendation. Oklahoma Future Teachers Scholarship Program

To be eligible for these scholarships, students must be residents of Oklahoma and must be nominated by their college. Students may be nominated based on a top 15% ranking in the graduating class, ACT or SAT scores in the top 15%, admission to a professional education program, or an undergraduate record of outstanding performance. To remain eligible, students must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA and agree to teach in a shortage area in Oklahoma public schools for at least three consecutive years after graduation and licensure. Students may receive funding for up to four years and preference will be given to full-time students. To apply for these scholarships, students must submit a new application each year. George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship

This program was established in 1999 to help outstanding students earn the necessary degrees to enter public service. The program accepts one nominee from each college and university per year, and recipients are required to participate in public service seminars through the Nigh Institute. To be eligible, students must be Oklahoma residents who are enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate program in Oklahoma. In addition, students must be enrolled in a degree program that will lead to a public service career. Finally, students must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement through GPA, class rank, national awards, honors, teachers’ recommendations, and involvement in extracurricular activities.
