Accredited online school, Western Governors University just launched a brand new scholarship program designed to help National Guard and Reserve service men and women as well as their spouses to pay for a college degree. The WGU Reservists and National Guard Scholarship program will award $2,000 to new students who pursue any of WGU’s online degrees in teacher education, business, information technology, or the health professions.
How Recipients Will Be Determined
The scholarships from this program are awarded on a competitive basis and will be determined based on financial need, readiness for online study, and academic record. Recipients will receive $500 for a six-month academic term and can renew the award for as many as four terms. In order to be eligible, students must prove financial need, must be admitted to WGU, and must provide transcripts showing successful completion of required college coursework.
For five years straight, WGU has been named a leading military-friendly school. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs that are accredited and affordable. For tuition that averages $2,890 for six months, students can gain credit for work experience and past college credits while completing the remaining courses they need for their degrees. WGU accepts federal financial aid and is approved for GI Bill education benefits. The school serves nearly 2,500 military personnel and veterans as well as their spouses and dependants.
WGU is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and provides the only exclusively online teacher education program accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. In addition, WGU’s nursing programs are accredited by the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education and the B.S. in Health Informatics program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.
