There are a surprising number of exercise science scholarships available, especially if you have at least a 3.0 GPA or higher. Even if you don’t, you will likely find scholarships tailor-made to fit your needs and circumstances. Before you take out student loans to pay for your tuition and fees, look into these exercise science scholarships for the help you need:

Brooker Scholarship

Students at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania can get these exercise science scholarships, valued at up to $200. Each year, the scholarship funds go to the exercise science major who has completed at least 90 semester hours and has the highest GPA overall in the major. The recipient will receive the award during the spring semester and will be invited to the Spring Awards Luncheon. The application deadline is March 15 and applications can be found here.

Sheila I. Drohan Scholarship

This is another scholarship available at Slippery Rock. These $1,000 awards are available to full-time students with at least a 3.25 GPA who is in good academic standing and who has financial need. Recipients can receive the award for a maximum of three years as long as they stay enrolled in the exercise science degree program. Interested students must apply by March 15 and can do so through the scholarship website.

Esther Lynne Geissel Scholarship for Athletic Training

The Esther Lynne Geissel scholarships are available to Slippery Rock students who are sophomores with at least 45 completed credits in the ATEP program. Students must be full-time students in good standing with a 3.0 GPA minimum. Preference for the $500 awards will be given to students who demonstrate exemplary community service and extracurricular participation. For more information, visit www.sru.edu.

Baker University Exercise Science Scholarship

Students at Baker University in Kansas can apply for exercise science scholarships through the Department of Behavioral and Health Sciences. To qualify, students must be freshmen or transfer students entering Baker in the fall. Students must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 25 or higher ACT score. Qualified students can submit an official scholarship application along with a teacher recommendation by March 1. Applications and detailed program information are available at www.bakeru.edu.

San Francisco State University

The purpose of these scholarships is to award the best student athletes for exemplary participation, level of quality, and leadership potential. To qualify for these scholarships, students must be enrolled at least one year at San Francisco State as a PE Credential Major, have at least one season of participation and a letter award in an inter-collegiate sport at SF State, and demonstrate a high level of potential for outstanding service as a PE teacher through coaching, leadership, or teaching in the field. Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship

The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance has awarded these exercise science scholarships since 1995. The program provides $1,250 each to three undergraduate students and $1,750 each to two graduate students who meet all criteria. Scholarship recipients also receive a three-year AAHPERD membership free of charge. Applications may be submitted by mail or electronically by October 15. Bill Kane Scholarship

These $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year to undergraduate health education students at any accredited United States college or university. To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time students for both fall and spring semesters. Students must also be sophomores or higher during the award year and must have at least a 3.25 GPA. In order to apply, students must submit a completed application along with a student essay. CANFIT Scholarships

The CANFIT scholarships are available to both undergraduate and graduate students who are California residents and are African-American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, or Latino/Hispanic students. Awards are med to qualifying students who have financial need and who wish to study nutrition, exercise science, or culinary arts in California. Graduate students who wish to apply must be enrolled in a masters or doctoral program in a qualifying field with at least 12 completed units and a 3.0 or better GPA. Undergraduate students must be enrolled full-time in a bachelors program in a qualifying field with at least 50 completed credits and at least a 2.5 GPA. Tobin Sorenson Physical Education Scholarship

These exercise science scholarships pay $1,000 toward tuition for outstanding students who plan to become K-12 physical education teachers, adapted physical education teachers, recreational therapists, coaches, or related professionals. Eligible applicants must be sophomores or higher at a regionally-accredited college or university. In addition, applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA and demonstrate exceptional leadership and extracurricular involvement. IAHPERD Student Scholarships

The IAHPERD studentscholarships provide $1,500 scholarships to five students and $2,000 to one student who proves to be the most outstanding applicant. Funds are available to junior and senior level undergraduate students who are majoring in professional programs for health, physical education, recreation, or dance. To be eligible, students must be full-time undergraduate students and members of IAHPERD since December 1 prior to applying. Students must also be attending a college or university in Illinois. To apply, students must submit a cover letter, resume, academic information, future goals, transcript, and two letters of recommendation by May 31.
